WHAT IS SCIENCE :
The word science came from the Latin word "SCIENTIA" which means Knowledge. so science is the name of our effort by which we humans can improve our understanding of the Nature around us and ease our life.
To explain the day-to-day phenomenon that happens around us we need knowledge. But every Knowledge is not science. If you gain your knowledge through the SCIENTIFIC METHOD then we can say that it is SCIENCE.
WHAT IS SCIENTIFIC METHOD :There are six steps in SCIENTIFIC METHOD, they are as follows :
- OBSERVE THE PHENOMENA
- ASK QUESTION
- ASSUME HYPOTHESIS
- DO SOME EXPERIMENT
- ANALYSE YOUR EXPERIMENTED RESULT
- DRAW A CONCLUSION ABOUT WHETHER YOUR HYPOTHESIS IS MATCHING WITH THE EXPERIMENTED RESULT
ASK QUESTION :
The scientific study begins when you ask questions about anything you observe. Ask How, Why, When, What, Which?
You have observed birds are flying but did you ever ask yourself why they are flying? or what causes them to stay far above the ground? if your answer is NO then my dear friend you have not started your science journey.
DO SOME BACKGROUND RESEARCH
Instead of starting from scratch, do some background research to find the answer to your question. you have to be a savvy scientist right. Use the library and do some google, ask your senior teacher so that you may find the best way to think and experiment. It also ensures that you don't repeat the mistake from the past.
CONSTRUCT HYPOTHESIS
Now it's time to take a hypothesis. But what is a hypothesis? well, it is an educated guess. It's like if I do this these are gonna happen. Make your predicted result must be easy to measure.
TEST YOUR HYPOTHESIS BY DOING AN EXPERIMENT
Do some tests to ensure whether your hypothesis is accurate or not. Make sure that you change only one factor while keeping all other factors remain constant. Do these experiments several times for less error.
ANALYZE YOUR RESULT AND MAKE A CONCLUSION
When the testing part is over then you need to collect all your measurements and analyze them to see whether they support your hypothesis or not.
If they support your hypothesis, do the test again in a new way for more surety.
But if your measured data do not support your hypothesis my dear friend do not get upset, construct another hypothesis by using your experience. Best of luck!
COMMUNICATE YOUR RESULT
When you complete all the steps then do not keep it secret within yourself rather share it with your teacher, science fair, or school magazine. It will not only help you but also the entire science community.
